Promote Job Growth!
Leverage the region’s agriculture and related industries and natural competitive advantages to diversify the economy and increase job opportunities. Newer industries, for example, those associated with High Speed Rail or alternative energy which receive billions of dollars of federal funds, offer tremendous job potential as long as the projects are fiscally sound and sustainable.
We cannot continue waiting year after year to address this issue. Rebuilding a strong economy on the back of a broken immigration system makes no sense. Immigrants contribute greatly to our economy as workers, consumers, business owners and taxpayers. Our nation deserves a workable program that provides a legal path for immigration that does not sacrifice security.
We also need to protect the DREAM Act. It’s good for our economy, our security, and our nation. We cannot go back on this common-sense, bipartisan legislation that gives students who grew up in the United States a chance to contribute to our country’s well-being. Whether by serving in the U.S. armed forces or pursuing a higher education, we must keep giving kids the opportunity to improve their lives. It ultimately helps all of us.
Fight for Clean Air and Water!
Our people deserve to breathe clean air and drink healthy water. Fighting for sensible solutions to basic needs for a good standard of living is something we must do for ourselves now and for our children’s tomorrow.
Let the Water Flow!
We need real bipartisan solutions to the Valley’s water crisis that will meet our farmers’ needs. I will continue to fight for a solution to restore the flow of water to our Valley and work with both Republicans and Democrats to create an economically feasible and environmentally responsible fishery plan to save taxpayers approximately one billion dollars and put and end to this man-made drought. My plan will increase the reliability of the water supply, improve and protect the quality of water, provide for additional flood protection, and protect aquatic ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
Once elected, I will seek assignment to the Agriculture, Ways and Means, and Appropriation Committees. In these committees, I will ensure that technical assistance and program funds are provided to our farm bureaus and water planning committees. Further, I will pursue agricultural subsidies for Valley farmers and fairer tax treatment of farms and agribusiness. I will be an advocate for fair competition between our domestic farm products and foreign imports by putting pressure on other countries to open their markets up to U.S. farm products. I will continue to stand for the Valley’s needs and will put people back to work by taking on powerful, corporate special interests in Washington.
